Black ramen with roasted soy sauce
Opened in 2004, Jigen centres its black ramen on roasted soy sauce, braised-pork seasoning and seafood stock. Curly, high-hydration noodles come with pork, bamboo shoots and spring onion, finished with black pepper. The recipe aims for a mellow flavour despite its dark appearance, and a lighter seasoning can be requested.
The ¥900 signature bowl and local set
Black soy-sauce ramen costs ¥900, or ¥1,030 large. The seafood version, with sardine and bonito powders, costs ¥980. The ¥1,350 local set combines black ramen, a Takaoka croquette and kombu rice ball; upgrading to seafood ramen makes it ¥1,430. Prices include tax, allowing a bowl alone or a fuller local-flavour meal.
Tantan noodles, dumplings and children’s options
Alternatives include black-sesame tantan noodles and garlic ramen, both ¥1,000. Fried dumplings cost ¥450 and a Takaoka croquette ¥200; children’s soy-sauce or salt ramen costs ¥400. Tatami seating and English/Traditional Chinese menus support family and visitor dining.
Earlier Sunday closing and station access
Normal Tuesday–Saturday and designated holiday service is 11:00–21:30, last orders 21:00. Sundays close at 18:00, last orders 17:30, except those before Monday holidays, which run until 21:30. Mondays are closed. The shop is on Wing Wing Takaoka’s first floor, two minutes from the station’s Kojo Park exit. Municipal parking is available with a discount arrangement.
Other stops to combine within Takaoka
Kojo Park and the Great Buddha area support a walking route based at Daibutsu Ryokan. Jigen is near the station, separate from the park, requiring a city walk from North parking. Sunday ramen service ends at 18:00, and the ryokan has fixed meal times and a 23:00 curfew. Plan from the daytime park visit through the evening return.
