Niboshi with paitan, and different noodle styles
The main ramen combines niboshi dried sardines with a rich paitan made using pork bones and chicken. The special premium version increases chashu, bamboo shoots, seasoned egg and nori. A Nanko-ume variation adds pickled-plum acidity. Dipping noodles are served separately from their soup, while mixed noodles use a bonito-stock soy dressing. Fish flavour does not mean the broth contains only seafood: pork and chicken are part of the advertised preparation, useful to consider when choosing for ingredient preferences.
Tax-inclusive noodle prices and side dishes
Tax-inclusive ramen prices are original niboshi ¥960, with seasoned egg ¥1,140, special premium ¥1,150 and Nanko plum ¥1,100. Special mixed noodles cost ¥1,200, premium niboshi dipping noodles ¥1,380 and original dipping noodles ¥1,000. Gyoza are ¥440 and an extra seasoned egg ¥180. Egg-on-rice is ¥360 or ¥260 at lunch, plain rice ¥250/¥150, and seared-chashu rice ¥480/¥380. The rice prices therefore differ between lunch and the regular menu. Choose noodles alone or add a side according to appetite and budget.
Opening until 23:00 and payment arrangements
Open Tue–Sun 11:00–23:00, with food and drink orders ending 22:30; Mondays are closed. This allows both daytime meals and later dinner. Counter and table seating are non-smoking, and children are welcome. There are no private or tatami rooms; the visit centres on a noodle meal. Cards and electronic money are not accepted. An English menu helps visitors select dishes. For a late visit, plan to arrive before the order deadline rather than using the 23:00 closing time as an arrival target.
Walking from Shukuin and the parking arrangement
At 3-1-11 Omachihigashi, Sakai-ku, about three minutes from Shukuin tram stop or ten from Sakai Station. There is no dedicated parking; drivers use nearby paid lots. The location works with a tram-line walk through Shukuin’s shops and historical streets before a noodle meal. Other Usagi branches have different addresses and hours, so keep Omachihigashi and the Shukuin branch in the route. For a late dinner, allow time for the return train as well as the restaurant’s last orders.
