茨城県立歴史館｜昭和の資料と無料庭園、11月はいちょうの光

茨城県立歴史館では、地域に残る記録を展示で見て、庭園の歴史建築やいちょう並木を歩けます。展示室と庭園は利用時間や料金が異なり、秋には夜の庭園も楽しめます。偕楽園の西側から歴史や季節の景色をつなぐ訪問先です。

The museum combines displays of regional records with historic buildings and ginkgo avenues in its gardens. Exhibition rooms and outdoor grounds have different fees and hours, with autumn evening garden access adding another experience. Its location west of Kairakuen supports a day linking local history and seasonal scenery.

歴史資料と庭園の建築を巡る

展示室では茨城の歴史に関わる資料にふれ、庭園では茨城県指定文化財の旧水海道小学校本館などの建物を眺められます。庭園は約7.2haで、いちょう並木のほか季節で変わる木々が見どころです。1881年築の擬洋風校舎と周囲の緑を組み合わせると、室内での資料観覧とは違う時間を過ごせます。

12月6日までの「昭和の茨城」

2026年10月10日～12月6日はアーカイブズの部屋「史料が語る 昭和の茨城」と2階ギャラリー展「西塩子の回り舞台」を開催しています。この期間は一般180円、70歳以上90円、高校生以下無料です。企画展期は一般390円、特別展期は690円と区分が変わります。展示の内容と日程に合わせて観覧し、庭園散策にも時間を配分できます。

展示室の休館日と11月の夜の庭

展示室は9時30分～17時、入館16時30分まで、月曜は祝日なら翌日休館。現在の年末年始予定は12月28日～2027年1月1日です。庭園は通常秋冬7～18時で休館日も開園し、11月1～23日のいちょうまつりは20時まで、裏門は18時閉門。ライトアップは17～20時で、本館の休館日11月2・9・16・24日も実施する案内です。11月21日は本館も17時30分～19時45分、入館19時15分までの無料夜間開館を予定しています。

バス停からの道と駐車場からの徒歩

水戸駅北口4番から偕楽園方面行きバス約10分、「歴史館偕楽園入口」下車徒歩約2分です。敷地内駐車場は普通車124台・大型13台・身障者用3台の案内で、本館まで徒歩約5分。いちょうまつりの混雑時は桜山第二駐車場から梅桜橋を通る経路も案内しています。敷地内は禁煙、ペットの入園不可で、偕楽園本園のペット試行とは利用条件が異なります。

水戸市内で組み合わせる訪問先

偕楽園・歴史館と千波湖の周辺では、庭園の見学と湖畔の食事を組み合わせられます。宿や飲食店の専用駐車場と一般利用の駐車場は利用目的が異なり、訪問先ごとに車を停める場所を選べます。駅前の店へ移動する場合も、宿の到着時刻、飲食の注文終了、駐車料金を合わせて一日の予定を組めます。

Historical records and garden architecture

Exhibition rooms introduce records of Ibaraki’s history, while the roughly 7.2-hectare garden contains historic buildings including the former Mitsukaido Elementary School main building, a prefectural cultural property. Built in 1881, the Western-influenced school contrasts with its green surroundings. The ginkgo avenue and other seasonal trees give the outdoor visit a different rhythm from studying documents inside.

Showa-era Ibaraki through December 6

October 10–December 6, 2026, features the Archives Room exhibition on Showa-era Ibaraki and the second-floor Nishi-Shiogo revolving-stage display. Admission during this period is ¥180 adults and ¥90 for age seventy and over; preschoolers and primary, junior-high and high-school students enter free. Other planned-exhibition periods cost ¥390 adults and special-exhibition periods ¥690. Match the visit to the exhibition dates and leave time for the grounds.

Museum closures and November evening gardens

Exhibition hours are 9:30–17:00, last entry 16:30, with Monday closure moving to the following day after a holiday. The current year-end schedule closes December 28–January 1, 2027. Gardens normally open 7:00–18:00 in autumn/winter, including museum closing days. During November 1–23 the garden remains open to 20:00, though the rear gate closes at 18:00; lighting runs 17:00–20:00, including museum closure dates November 2, 9, 16 and 24. A free museum evening opening is planned November 21, 17:30–19:45, last entry 19:15.

Approaching from the bus stop and parking

From north stand 4 at Mito Station, take a Kairakuen-bound bus for about ten minutes to Rekishikan Kairakuen Iriguchi, then walk roughly two minutes. On-site parking lists 124 car, thirteen coach and three accessible spaces, around five minutes on foot from the main building. Festival overflow uses Sakurayama No.2 via Baiokyo Bridge. The grounds are nonsmoking and exclude pets; Kairakuen’s separate pet trial does not apply here.

Other stops to combine within Mito

Around Kairakuen, the history museum and Lake Senba, combine garden visits with lakeside meals. Hotel and restaurant parking serves a different purpose from general public parking, so choose a parking place for each destination. When continuing to station-side dining, coordinate hotel arrival, food last orders and parking charges across the day.
