Manuscripts and writers linked to Koriyama
The literary museum introduces Masao Kume, Yuriko Miyamoto and other writers with connections to Koriyama through manuscripts, books, letters and film. Compare the works with the authors’ lives, periods and friendships. An activity corner offers computer quizzes, background information and audio drama based on local writers’ work. Allow separate time for reading the galleries and walking through the historic house, since each offers a different kind of encounter with literature.
A relocated house combining Japanese and Western rooms
The Masao Kume Memorial Hall occupies his house built in Nikaido, Kamakura in 1930 and relocated to Koriyama in 2000. Behind a white Western-style frontage, corridors lead to Japanese rooms. Walk through the reception room, the guest room used for haiku gatherings and the study, with belongings and photographs adding personal context. A reference room in the former wife’s room allows browsing of literary magazines and books, offering a reading break within the house visit.
Joint admission and the autumn collection display
A joint ticket for the literary museum and Kume house costs ¥200 adult or ¥100 for high-school/university students and equivalent categories. Groups of 20 or more pay ¥150/¥70 with advance contact. Junior-high-age children and younger, visitors aged 65 or over and disability-certificate holders enter free; carer exemptions depend on certificate category and grade. Scheduled October 24–December 13, 2026, the Saburo Suwa and Yutaka Mafune collection exhibition explores two authors born in Konan and the links between their home region and writing. Individual admission is scheduled to change to ¥350 adult and ¥170 high-school/university and equivalent categories from April 1, 2027.
Opening times and access around the sports centre
Visit 10:00–17:00 and enter by 16:30. Monday closure moves to the following day if a holiday; December 28–January 4 and maintenance days also close. From Koriyama Station, take a roughly fifteen-minute bus ride to Sogo Taiikukan and walk one minute. Allow about twenty minutes from Koriyama, Koriyama-Minami or Koriyama-Chuo Smart IC. The sports centre’s first/second lots or the athletics-ground east lot provide two free hours; nearby events can make them busy. The grounds are nonsmoking.
