This museum follows Numazu’s educational and modern history through Ebara Soroku and the Numazu Military Academy. It adds context to a trip otherwise centred on coastal scenery and food, showing how the city developed. Exhibition changes require an October 2026 closure, followed by a special exhibition examining reconstruction and the decades of postwar growth.

Education and the city’s modernization
The permanent displays centre on Ebara Soroku and the Numazu Military Academy, a school of the Shizuoka Tokugawa domain. The third floor covers the city’s broader history and Ebara, while the fourth addresses the academy, allowing visitors to follow links between education and local development. The first-floor reference library holds local materials, municipal histories and museum publications. It offers a useful next step for anyone whose curiosity about the area extends beyond the displays seen during a sightseeing visit.
Autumn closure and the postwar exhibition
The museum closes October 20–30, 2026 for exhibition preparation. From October 31, 2026 to January 31, 2027, “Numazu, Aoi Haru: From the Ruins towards the Future” examines roughly four decades of postwar reconstruction and everyday life. Materials include the bomb-damaged city, station-area planning and Nakamise’s Tanabata festival. Gallery talks on November 14, December 12 and January 9 require advance booking and accommodate about ten people each. The talks have no extra participation fee, but museum admission remains payable.
Regular admission and closure rules
Admission is ¥200 for adults and ¥100 for elementary and junior-high pupils; local pupils enter free. Groups of at least 20 receive 20% off. Regular closures include Mondays, although holiday Mondays open, and the day after a public holiday except Saturdays and Sundays. The last weekday of each month and December 29–January 3 are also closed. Free-admission days are February 23, May 19 and August 21. These overlapping rules make the end of the month and days following holidays particularly relevant when choosing a weekday visit.
Access north of the station
The museum is at 372-1 Nishikumando, about 30 minutes on foot from JR Numazu Station’s north exit. Alternatively, take a Fujikyu bus via Ebara Park from south-exit stop 8 and alight at Meiji Shiryokan-mae or Ebara Koen. Parking accommodates about ten cars. Opening is 09:00–16:30, with the displays spread across upper floors. Combined with a stay north of the station, it provides a different perspective from the port and shoreline. Regular closure days continue to apply during the special exhibition.
