Ryusei Kaikan introduces Yoshida’s rocket festival outside the annual celebration itself. Actual handmade rockets and audiovisual displays explain the construction, launch process and local traditions maintained by different schools. Located within a roadside station with a produce shop, it provides a cultural stop when exploring the Yoshida area rather than requiring a visit on festival day.
At a glance
| Opening | 09:00–16:30, entry by 16:00 |
|---|---|
| Admission | High-school age and over ¥350; primary/junior high ¥200; preschool free |
| Closure | Tuesdays; holiday Tuesdays open, closed the following day |
| Separate museum | Denzo house / Chichibu Incident museum: separate ¥200 / ¥100 admission |
A large screen and a full-size launch tower
Actual rockets stand alongside a 150-inch screen showing the festival. A full-size launch-tower display adds light and sound to evoke the moment of sending one into the air. Film of the production process also reveals work that precedes the finished object. The museum can deepen understanding after a festival visit or introduce the background before a future trip to see the outdoor celebration.
Local schools and rockets beyond Chichibu
The display introduces the history and techniques of twenty-seven local schools that pass on rocket-making skills. Material about rockets elsewhere provides a wider comparison for Yoshida’s own practice. The festival is an annual event at Muku Shrine on the second Sunday in October; the museum exhibition and the outdoor launches are different experiences. Film and objects provide an introduction even on days without a live festival.
Ticket conditions and the neighbouring history museum
Admission is ¥350 for high-school age and over, ¥200 for primary and junior-high pupils, and free for preschool children. Groups of twenty or more receive ¥50 off each paid category. Next door, the Denzo Inoue house and Chichibu Incident museum occupy a building reconstructed for a film; their separate admission is adult ¥200 and primary/junior high ¥100. Choose either the festival displays alone or a second visit covering modern local history.
Use the Yoshida roadside station as a base
Opening is 09:00–16:30, final admission 16:00. Tuesdays close unless a public holiday, in which case closure moves to the following day. On-site parking and the 09:00–17:00 Ryusei Chaya produce shop support a regional stop. Drive about thirty minutes from Michi-no-Eki Chichibu, then about five to Muku Shrine or twenty to Yoshida Genki Mura. The museum closes before the shop, which can help determine the order of a visit.
Other stops to combine within Chichibu
Central sightseeing, stops in Yoshida or Arakawa, and mountain roads towards Otaki or Mitsumine require different travel times. Fit meal-order deadlines and accommodation arrival around the next stop by car or railway. Choose related parking according to its own facility or area and the applicable use conditions.
