The castle beyond the garden and a tatami hall
The dry garden borrows the castle keep above the reconstructed longhouse roof, incorporating Izumo-style black pines and stepping stones. Dedicated café tables complement a roughly thirty-mat living hall facing the garden, accommodating up to twenty-four people. The hall is freely accessible without ordering. On fine days the veranda provides another way to enjoy the setting and fresh air.
Today’s sweets and whisking your own matcha
The ¥1,200 matcha/fresh-sweet set includes rakugan; choose one of the day’s sweets and substitute hot/cold matcha, coffee, Matsue black tea, sencha or juice. The ¥1,100 Fumai-favourites set offers a choice among the three famous Matsue sweets selection, Himekosode and Yamakatsura. The ¥1,500 experience set pairs sweets and rakugan with matcha you whisk yourself before enjoying the garden.
Filled warabi mochi, other sweets and drinks
The limited house warabi mochi wraps soft mochi around sweet adzuki filling and coats it with matcha. Limited Ogura kanoko uses large Dainagon beans around the house Asashio filling. Regular choices include a sweet alone ¥550, matcha ¥700, matcha parfait ¥950 and zenzai ¥800. A zenzai/matcha set costs ¥1,450, with cold desserts also available to suit appetite and weather.
