Furusato Center Oto offers parking for a break on Route 311 between Tanabe and the Kumano area. It divides a longer journey before or after visits to Oto’s mountains and rivers.

Breaking a Route 311 journey at Ayukawa
The roadside station stands at 997-1 Ayukawa on Route 311. Parking and toilets are available twenty-four hours, with free parking. Stop while travelling from central Tanabe toward Nakahechi or Hongu, or returning from Oto’s mountains. Published access is about thirty minutes by car from Kii-Tanabe Station, or forty-five minutes from Nanki-Tanabe Interchange via Routes 42 and 311 toward Kumano. It offers a place to leave the vehicle briefly, use the facilities and select refreshments or products before continuing.
Large-, medium- and ordinary-vehicle spaces
Thirty-seven spaces are divided into two for large vehicles, one for a medium vehicle and thirty-four for ordinary cars. The expanded layout accommodates large buses; use a bay matching the vehicle. Accessible toilet facilities and a ramp are provided. Family cars and group buses use different marked areas but share the station’s role as a road-rest stop. Fit the vehicle within its bay and account for people moving between parked vehicles and the building when entering or leaving.
The renewed shop and Thursday closures
The facility reopened after renewal on April 1, 2026, expanding its product selection and restoring a dining room. The shop opens 09:00–17:00, closing Thursdays except public holidays. Plan shopping or a meal during daytime business hours: the twenty-four-hour parking and toilets do not mean the shop stays open at night. For an evening journey onward toward Kumano, complete purchases by 17:00 before continuing along the road.
Plum products, woodcraft and exploring Oto
Shop products include umeboshi, dokudami tea, miso, pickled daikon, woodcraft and sweets, alongside products from the wider Kumano and Wakayama area. Published drives for further exploration are around twenty-five minutes to Tonoyama Dam or forty-five to Hyakkenzan Gorge. Rest here and choose the next stop according to time and weather. A gorge visit needs its own walking time, with the station also useful on the return. It combines browsing regional products with a break for road travellers.
Other stops to combine within Tanabe
Tanabe extends from its coastal centre into the mountain districts of Ryujin, Nakahechi, Oto and Hongu. Fit the next stop around meal-order deadlines and accommodation arrival, allowing time for both road travel and any walking on the Kumano Kodo. Choose parking according to the facility or district visited and its use conditions.
