A riverside rest beside the main road
At 904-4 Fushiogami on Route 168, the station is about five minutes by car from Hongu Taisha. The road leads north toward Totsukawa and south toward Shingu. Parking is free, with fifty ordinary-vehicle and two large-vehicle spaces, plus accessible parking provision. The Kumano River lies in front and the Hatenashi mountains beyond; the terrace and waterside park offer places to pause over the scenery. It links a road break with onward travel around Hongu.
Separate parking, toilet and shop hours
Parking and toilets can be used twenty-four hours. The product shop opens 09:00–18:00, with no shopping at night or on closure days. Accessible toilet provision and a ramp are available. Road and local tourism information support a stop before heading farther into the mountains. As road-rest facilities, the parking and toilets serve a brief break as well as shopping. Leaving a car throughout a long-distance walk is a different use from an ordinary rest during a road journey.
The month-by-month 2026 financial-year calendar
Shop hours and closure arrangements changed from June 2026. Forthcoming closures are October 28, November 11 and 25, and December 9 and 16. The 2027 calendar lists January 1–3, 13 and 27; February 10 and 24; and March 10 and 24. Use these monthly dates when planning to shop. They are closures of the product facility rather than a blanket closure of the normal parking and toilet rest function. On a New Year journey, fit food and purchases around business days.
Hongu food products and travel toward the springs
Products include umeboshi, shiso juice, pickles for mehari sushi and local farm produce. An eat-in area accommodates purchased bento, sushi or bread. Yunomine, Kawayu and Watarase hot-spring areas are roughly ten to fifteen minutes away by car. Stop after worship at Hongu Taisha or select food before heading toward a spring. Bathing and lodging belong to the destination facilities, so coordinate their times with the roadside-station stop for a journey around the mountainous area.
Other stops to combine within Tanabe
Tanabe extends from its coastal centre into the mountain districts of Ryujin, Nakahechi, Oto and Hongu. Fit the next stop around meal-order deadlines and accommodation arrival, allowing time for both road travel and any walking on the Kumano Kodo. Choose parking according to the facility or district visited and its use conditions.
