A full-scale sanctuary with three Buddhist figures
Columns, ceiling, Buddhist figures and murals recreate the temple sanctuary at full scale. The central Buddha reaches 3.8 metres including its pedestal; the two attendant bodhisattvas reach 3.4 metres, making the scale of a space difficult to imagine from fragments tangible. Reconstructed Hakuho- and Nara-period murals use natural-pigment colours. This is an interpretation based on excavation rather than a surviving ancient building, showing how the temple’s interior may have been organised and decorated.
Mural fragments, clay sculpture and earlier finds
Around 160 cultural objects trace Yodoe before the temple and the Buddhist culture that followed. Pictorial pottery from the Kakuta site carries several motifs, including a feather-adorned figure and buildings; a shield-bearing haniwa is another highlight. Kamiyodo fragments preserve a guardian figure, coloured robes and carefully formed toes. Compare the lines and colours on small excavated fragments with the reconstructed sanctuary to connect archaeological finds with the larger architectural setting.
Admission categories and entry conditions
Adults pay ¥310 and high-school or university students ¥160; junior-high pupils and younger children enter free. For groups of fifteen or more, adult/student charges fall to ¥250/¥100. Disabled visitors and one carer are also free. Hours are 09:30–18:00, last entry 17:30. Tuesday closure moves to the following day when it is a public holiday; December 29–January 3 is also closed. Pets are excluded apart from assistance dogs, and the facility is generally nonsmoking.
Yodoe Station and the local bus timetable
At 977-2 Fukuoka in Yodoecho, the hall is about twenty minutes on foot from Yodoe Station or three minutes by car from Yodoe Interchange. Donguri Korokoro buses stop directly outside, but do not run Sundays or public holidays. Nearby Hoki Kodai-no-Oka Park is a separate facility, opening 09:00–17:00 and closing on dates including second and fourth Wednesdays. Its schedule differs from the hall’s, so allow separate visiting and travel time when combining the two.
