Explore the imaginative world through objects and films
Permanent areas explore Kenji’s imaginative world, his writing and the places and activities behind it. They provide context for the works rather than only their plots. The Kenji Salon includes a chronology linking his life with Hanamaki and information resources with film and music libraries. The viewing lounge looks across the city, combining the indoor visit with a pause on Koshiozan.
The cellist exhibition and original-object periods
The cellist exhibition runs October 3, 2026–February 14, 2027, then February 20–May 30. Manuscript/original-object periods are October 31–November 8, 2026 and February 6–14, 2027, with November 4 and February 9 closed. Only the special exhibition room closes for changes on November 9, 2026, February 5 and February 15, 2027. Choose the original-object dates as well as the overall exhibition period when hoping to see Kenji’s own cello and manuscripts.
Age-based admission and joint tickets
Admission is ¥350 for adults, ¥250 for high-school/other students and ¥150 for primary/junior-high pupils; groups of twenty or more pay ¥300/¥200/¥100. Present an eligible disability certificate or Mirairo ID for free admission with one carer. Joint tickets cover this museum, Kenji’s School at Dowa Mura, the city museum and Nitobe Memorial Museum: two sites cost ¥550/¥350/¥200, and four ¥1,000/¥650/¥400. The separate Ihatov Centre is free.
