本家伴久｜渓流沿いの湯とかずら橋、囲炉裏会席の宿

Honke Bankyu combines riverside rooms, outdoor hot springs and hearth dining reached across its vine bridge. The wooden buildings have many stairs, with bathroom and bed arrangements varying by room. 川沿いの木造の宿に泊まる

1666年創業の本家伴久は、平家落人の伝承が残る湯西川にある24室の宿です。全室が清流に面し、木や土壁を配した客室は部屋ごとに意匠が異なります。一般客室、内風呂付き、半露天・露天風呂付きに分かれ、2025年改装の和洋スイートにはベッドとソファがあります。客室タイプは選べますが個別の部屋指定はできず、館内には階段が多くあります。

川縁の温泉と45分の貸切湯

男女の内湯と露天風呂は源泉かけ流しで、川の近くで山里の景色を眺められます。貸切露天風呂は岩風呂「花満月」と舟型の「夢夜舟」で、各4～5人ほどの大きさ。1回45分2,200円、15～23時に利用し、予約はチェックイン後です。客室露天風呂付きのプランなら部屋でも入浴でき、貸切湯とは別に専用浴室を持つ滞在を選べます。

かずら橋の先で取る囲炉裏会席

夕食は湯西川にかかるかずら橋で平家隠れ館へ渡り、炭火囲炉裏焼きと会席を楽しみます。名物の一升べらや生湯波などを取り入れ、朝は和食膳です。基本プランは1泊2食、2名1室の大人1名税込25,500円からで、部屋と料理により変わります。食物アレルギーは予約時、遅くとも3日前までに申し出ます。小麦・大豆・乳製品・卵・調味料・出汁の除去や重度のアレルギーには対応できません。

夕食に間に合う到着と山の道路

インは15～17時30分、アウト10時で、夕食は18時から2時間。17時以降に着く場合は連絡し、遅い到着では夕食を提供できない場合があります。宿の送迎はなく、路線バスの終便に合わせて移動します。駅からタクシーを使う場合は事前予約が必要です。駐車場40台無料。11月下旬～3月下旬頃は冬用タイヤを装着し、山間の道路で余裕を持つ行程にできます。

日光市内で組み合わせる訪問先

湯西川温泉街の平家の里、本家伴久、水の郷は、山里の歴史、食事と入浴を組み合わせられる訪問先です。駅直結の道の駅は西川にあり、温泉街とは別の場所なので、バスや車で移動する時間を取れます。食堂の繁忙期営業、宿の夕食開始、平家の里の季節の閉館時刻を合わせ、冬は山道に余裕を持って巡れます。

A wooden inn beside the river

Founded in 1666, Honke Bankyu has twenty-four rooms in Yunishigawa, a village preserving Heike-refugee traditions. All face the stream, with wood and earthen-wall designs differing between rooms. Categories include ordinary rooms, indoor-bath rooms and rooms with semi-outdoor or outdoor baths. Mixed suites refurbished in 2025 include beds and sofas. Categories can be selected, but specific rooms cannot; the buildings contain many stairs.

Riverside hot springs and private baths

Men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor baths use continuously supplied spring water close to the river. Private options are Hanamangetsu’s rock bath and boat-shaped Yumeyobune, each sized for roughly four–five people. They cost ¥2,200 for forty-five minutes during 15:00–23:00, booked after check-in. An outdoor-bath room offers its own bathing space separately from the bookable shared private-bath facilities.

Irori dinner across the bridge

Cross the vine bridge over Yunishigawa to Heike Kakurekan for charcoal-hearth cooking and kaiseki, including specialities such as Isshobera and fresh yuba. Breakfast is a Japanese set meal. Basic half-board begins at ¥25,500 per adult, including tax, for two sharing a room, varying with room and meal. Declare food allergies when booking and at least three days ahead. The inn cannot remove wheat, soy, dairy, eggs, seasonings or stock, or accommodate severe allergies.

Arrival before dinner and mountain travel

Check in 15:00–17:30 and out by 10:00; dinner runs for two hours from 18:00. Notify the inn for arrival after 17:00, as a late arrival may prevent dinner service. There is no inn shuttle, so plan around the last local bus. Taxis from the station require advance booking. Forty parking spaces are free. Fit winter tyres around late November–late March and allow extra time on the mountain approach.

Other stops to combine within Nikko

Heike-no-Sato, Honke Bankyu and Mizunosato combine mountain history, food and bathing. The station-connected roadside stop is in Nishikawa, separate from the hot-spring village, requiring bus or car travel. Match peak-month dining, the inn’s dinner start and the museum’s seasonal closing time, allowing extra time for winter mountain roads.
