Nikko Kanaya Hotel occupies a rise near Shinkyo, combining carved woodwork, distinctive rooms in several buildings and traditional French dining. Its buildings reflect successive additions since the Meiji period, allowing shrine visits to share time with exploring the hotel. 1873年から続くホテルの建築

1873年、金谷善一郎が自宅の一部を外国人向けの金谷カッテージ・インとして開いたことが始まりです。現在のホテルでは本館、新館、別館などが登録有形文化財となり、回転扉、龍や迦陵頻伽の彫刻、古い食器などに歴史を見られます。敷地内の展示室「金谷の時間」は9～17時30分で、宿泊の合間に建物と資料を合わせて巡れます。

館ごとに異なる客室と浴室

本館、新館、別館、第二新館に、スタンダードやデラックス、スイートなどの洋室があります。シャワー付タイプは浴槽を備えないため、客室の設備に合わせて選びます。全室禁煙で、館内Wi-Fiを利用可能。日光金谷ホテルは温泉ではなく大浴場もありません。有料の家族風呂は15～22時、フロントで受け付け、タオルは客室から持参します。

伝統料理と館内で過ごす時間

メインダイニングの朝食は7時30分～9時30分、昼食11時30分～14時30分、夕食18～20時のラストオーダーです。夕食はコース、朝食はアメリカンブレックファースト。客室のナイトウェアやスリッパでの入店はできません。クラフトラウンジは当面休業、屋外プールは2026年度休止です。バーや売店、歴史展示を、営業する施設に合わせて利用できます。

神橋からの坂道と駐車時間

チェックインは15時から最終20時、アウト11時。駅から路線バス約5分、神橋下車後は急な坂を上がって徒歩3分です。東武日光駅から予約不要の無料シャトルも運行し、2026年10月10日～11月8日は指定日に秋の特別運行となります。屋外駐車場60台は無料ですが、利用は到着日正午～出発日正午。玄関に車を付け、時間外駐車はできません。

日光市内で組み合わせる訪問先

山内の寺社は拝観券ごとに受付終了が異なり、門前町の昼食と合わせるなら先に見学の順序を決められます。神橋周辺の宿から輪王寺へは坂道を含む移動です。第2駐車場の受付時刻、湯波料理の注文時間、ホテルの夕食に合わせ、秋の夜間拝観を加える日も日中の行程と分けて組めます。

Architecture and the hotel’s early years

The hotel began in 1873 when Zenichiro Kanaya opened part of his home as Kanaya Cottage Inn for overseas travellers. Several present buildings, including the main, new and annex wings, are registered tangible cultural properties. A revolving door, dragon and celestial-bird carvings and old tableware offer details to explore. The on-site Kanaya-no-Jikan exhibition room opens 9:00–17:30, connecting the buildings with historical material.

Room choices and bathing

The main, new, annex and second new buildings offer standard, deluxe and suite rooms. The shower-only category has no bathtub, so compare bathroom specifications when selecting. All rooms are non-smoking and Wi-Fi is available around the hotel. Nikko Kanaya has no hot-spring supply or communal bath. A paid private family bath operates 15:00–22:00, arranged through reception, with towels brought from the room.

Traditional meals and time in the hotel

Main Dining takes final orders at 9:30 for breakfast from 7:30, 14:30 for lunch from 11:30, and 20:00 for dinner from 18:00. Dinner is a course meal and breakfast is American style. Room nightwear and slippers are unsuitable for restaurant entry. The Craft Lounge remains temporarily closed and the outdoor pool does not operate in 2026. Other options include the bar, shop and historical exhibition.

The Shinkyo approach and parking period

Check in from 15:00 with last arrival at 20:00, and leave by 11:00. A roughly five-minute local bus journey from the stations reaches Shinkyo, followed by a three-minute walk up a steep slope. A free unreserved shuttle serves Tobu Nikko Station, using a special autumn pattern on specified dates October 10–November 8, 2026. Sixty outdoor spaces are free from arrival-day noon to departure-day noon; drive to the entrance first. Parking outside this period is unavailable.

Other stops to combine within Nikko

Admission deadlines vary among the Sannai temples, so choose the order before fitting in a meal on the approach. Travel from accommodation near Shinkyo includes slopes. Coordinate the No. 2 parking reception, yuba meal orders and hotel dinner; selected autumn garden evenings need their own time beyond the daytime visit.
