Regional toys gathered inside former trading granaries
The museum opened in 1967 and was renewed in April 2024. Granaries inherited from the family trading business house a collection of about ten thousand regional toys, including works made from the Edo through Showa periods. Local materials and customs give different areas distinctive forms. Compare these small objects with the riverside architecture around them to explore both regional craft and the site itself.
Continue through the toy shop, tableware space and gallery
The shop carries spinning tops, kites, battledores, board games, paper balloons and new toys made with natural materials. Side Terrace faces the courtyard and sells glass and pottery, while Flat focuses on goods made with decorative tatami edging. Farther inside, Plus One Gallery hosts craft and art exhibitions. Museum admission and shopping access are separate, allowing a gallery visit to lead into choosing something for everyday use.
Check student bands and group rates
Museum admission is ¥600 for adults, ¥300 for junior-high through university students and ¥100 for primary pupils; preschoolers enter free. Ten or more paying visitors receive rates of ¥500/200/50. Disability-certificate holders receive those same reduced rates after showing the certificate at the shop register, where museum admission is paid. No museum admission is required for a visit limited to the shops and tableware spaces.
Allow for last entry and different shop closing times
The museum and shop normally run 10:00–17:00, with museum entry until 16:40. Side Terrace finishes at 16:40, and the gallery may close at 16:00 on the final exhibition day. Closures include December 30–January 1 and occasional quiet-season dates, including Wednesdays in January, February and June. At 1-4-16 Chuo, walk about thirteen minutes from Kurashiki Station. Cars cannot enter the frontage; approach on foot from nearby paid parking.
