View the large Bishamonten in the treasury
The 4.73-metre Tobatsu Bishamonten is carved from a single zelkova trunk. Standing on the earth goddess’s hands with two attendant figures, it is nationally designated important cultural property. For protection it was moved from the historic Bishamondo hall to the treasury. Visit the building and the sculpture at their separate locations. Photography during viewing is prohibited, allowing attention to the scale and carved timber in person.
Other figures and the medieval hall
The treasury also houses the two attendant figures, the figure traditionally identified as Kisshoten and an Amida Buddha. Kisshoten is distinguished by an elephant-head crown and the zelkova grain. Bishamondo is a three-bay, hipped-roof hall with a surrounding veranda and porch, preserving late-medieval construction and nationally designated as important cultural property. The shrine buildings and miso-offering hall add other places to see while tracing the objects’ setting.
Seasonal hours and group prices
Ordinary treasury hours are 09:00–16:30 April–November and 09:00–16:00 December–March, excluding December 31–January 3 from that schedule. The facility is described as open year-round. Individual admission is ¥500 for adults, ¥300 for primary/junior-high pupils and free for preschoolers. Groups pay ¥450/¥270 with advance arrangements. The earlier winter finish matters when combining it with other Towa attractions.
Narushima address and road approaches
The address is 1 Kita-Narushima 5-ku, Towacho. Allow around ten minutes by car from Tsuchizawa Station, five from Towa IC or twenty from Shin-Hanamaki. The grounds map distinguishes the treasury, Bishamondo, shrine office and Tobatsukan. After the visit, Tobatsukan offers a place to pause with views towards the Sarugaishi River and Narushima. For a day also including Tsuchizawa’s art museum, allow separate viewing periods and road travel time.
