Kenji’s painting and relationships with artists
The Kenji Miyazawa 130th-anniversary exhibition runs September 19–December 6, 2026. Watercolours, notebook sketches and book designs explore his interest in visual art, including connections with work by Yorozu, Tanaka Kyokichi and Onchi Koshiro. Temporary and permanent displays share the exhibition space, so permanent-only admission is unavailable. A reduced selection of Yorozu works appears within the current exhibition.
Choose the dates for original notebooks and watercolours
The October 10–25 display period for the original Ame ni mo Makezu notebook has ended. The owl picture and Moonlit Telegraph Poles appear October 24–November 8; Red Ball and Chemical Garden November 7–23; Sun and Mountain November 21–December 6. Reproductions replace originals outside their conservation-limited periods. Select dates for the particular objects and account for Monday or post-holiday closures, rather than expecting every original throughout the exhibition.
The current ¥700 admission and exemptions
The current Kenji exhibition costs ¥700 for adults, ¥400 for high-school/other students and ¥300 for primary/junior-high pupils; groups of twenty or more pay ¥650/¥350/¥250. Prices vary by exhibition. Eligible disability certificates or Mirairo ID provide free entry with one carer. Qualifying local pupils have specified card-based free periods. Open 09:00–17:00, entry until 16:30; holiday Mondays shift closure to the next weekday. Closed December 28–January 3.
Walk from Tsuchizawa and visit Haccho
At 135 Tsuchizawa 5-ku, Towacho, walk eight minutes from Tsuchizawa Station, take a ten-minute taxi from Shin-Hanamaki or drive two minutes from Towa IC. Twenty parking spaces are provided. The Haccho storehouse to the west reconstructs the Yorozu family storehouse and offers free gallery exhibitions. It opens 09:00–16:30, entry until 16:00; closed Mondays, next day if a holiday, December 29–January 3 and exhibition changes. Its finish differs from the main museum’s.
