霧島神宮｜国宝の朱塗り社殿と森の参道を訪ねる

霧島神宮は、緑の木々に朱塗りの社殿が映える神社です。参拝に加えて、石段や参道、晴れた日の展望所をゆっくり巡る楽しみがあります。

国宝の社殿を参拝する

現在の社殿は1715年に島津吉貴によって再建されました。本殿・幣殿・拝殿は2022年に国宝に指定されています。勅使殿から登廊下を経て、高い位置の本殿へ続く構成が特徴です。参拝できる場所から、朱色と装飾の重なりを眺めます。

森の参道と展望所

表参道は朱塗りの神橋から約80段の石段を上り、二の鳥居・三の鳥居へ続きます。途中の展望所からは、晴れた日に鹿児島湾や桜島などを望めます。階段を上る区間と境内散策を組み合わせ、歩くペースに合わせて休憩を取れる行程にします。

見学範囲と受付時間

境内の参拝は無料です。授与所は8～17時。祈願の専用ページは9時～16時30分、予約不要で当日神楽殿へと案内しています。一方、アクセスページは祈願も8～17時と表示しており、受付時間の案内に差があります。出張祭典は別途予約制です。本殿の壁画や幣殿の竜柱は通常の一般公開対象ではなく、参拝場所から見える社殿と参道を中心に巡ります。

車とバスで霧島神宮へ

無料駐車場は普通車500台、バス10台分です。公共交通ではJR霧島神宮駅から霧島神宮方面のバスを利用できます。駅と神宮は別の場所なので、列車の到着後にバスで移動する時間も見込みます。車で温泉地と組み合わせる場合は、授与所の17時終了に合わせて参拝を先にする行程も選べます。

Visit the National Treasure buildings

Shimazu Yoshitaka rebuilt the present shrine in 1715. Its main sanctuary, offering hall and worship hall became National Treasures in 2022. The arrangement rises from the imperial envoy hall through a covered stairway toward the main sanctuary. Appreciate its colors and decoration from the permitted worship areas.

Forest approach and viewpoint

The main approach climbs about eighty steps from the vermilion bridge before continuing toward the second and third torii. On clear days the viewpoint looks toward Kagoshima Bay and Sakurajima. Allow time for the stair climb and breaks during the walk through the grounds.

Viewing areas and reception hours

Worship in the grounds is free. Amulets are available 08:00–17:00. The dedicated prayer page lists reception 09:00–16:30, with no reservation required and same-day attendance at the Kaguraden. The access page also lists prayers as 08:00–17:00, so the published reception hours differ. Off-site ceremonies require a reservation. The main sanctuary murals and the offering hall’s dragon pillars are not normally open to general visitors; the visit centers on accessible worship areas, exterior views and approach paths.

Arriving by car or bus

Free parking accommodates five hundred cars and ten buses. Buses connect JR Kirishima Jingu Station with the shrine area. The station and shrine are separate locations, so allow transfer time after arriving by train. When combining the shrine with hot springs by car, visiting first can fit the 17:00 amulet-counter closing time.
